Description
Whitewood / Softwood also known as Picea Abies – Spruce.
The color varies from creamy white to light yellow and red-brown. Spruce is straight-grained with a smooth and even texture. The wood has medium density. Strength properties are excellent. Sawing and machining is easy, as well as gluing, jointing and assembling.
Easy to work, as long as there are no knots present. Glues and finishes well, though it can give poor (blotchy and inconsistent) results when being stained due to its closed pore structure. A sanding sealer, gel stain, or toner is recommended when coloring Spruce.
The typical end-use is as structural timber in studs and beams, indoors and outdoors. It is also used for interior construction, external joinery, carpentry, furniture, external paneling, facades, flooring, doors and packaging.
